In Dominique's own words . . .

I have worked in the Equestrian Industry for nearly 14 years in both England and America.

Professionally I work as the ‘Head Girl’ (Yard Manager) for one of Britain’s top horse racing yards and have done so for over 5 years within which time we have had great successes.

This experience has enabled me to further my knowledge generally and realise the benefits first hand of the importance for a horse to be at its optimum level of health and fitness. Through maintaining this optimum level both the consistency and the ability of the horse within its discipline are greatly improved. When fit and healthy, the horse can move freely, confident that it will not experience any pain. This confidence enhances the horse’s response and behaviour towards these tasks.
The experience has enabled me to recognise particular patterns that form, symptoms that arise and changes in a horse’s action. I have seen the effects of many injuries and grasped an understanding of the necessary time required for a horse to make a full recovery assisted through the use of available treatments.

Although I work with racehorses currently, my love extends across all of the equestrian sports and disciplines. I have a keen interest and developed knowledge in Polo horses, Show Jumpers, Eventers, Pleasure horses and Ponies.

Why choose Equine Massage Therapy?

As all horse owners/riders/trainers do, we continually place physical demands upon our horses ranging from pleasure riding involving a hack out once a week through to intense levels of competition. We often ask our horses to perform and often surpass our own levels of expectations which can subsequently result in the formation of physical and/or emotional stress which if left untreated could progress to greater or long-term problems.

All horses and ponies can benefit from Equine Massage Therapy.

Equine Massage Therapy is a safe, non evasive practice that uses a variety of therapeutic applications, techniques and stretching exercises to detect and find the cause of muscular stress.

Further techniques are then used to manipulate the soft tissue structures beneath the skin to promote both a physical release and emotional relaxation. Ultimately this assists and enhances the horse’s natural recovery process meaning the horse can maintain optimum health and fitness that in turn generates a balance of both body and mind.

Benefits of Equine Massage Therapy

The various techniques and stretches involved with Equine Massage Therapy provide both physical and emotional benefits to the whole inner working system and include:

  • The detection and repair of stressed muscles
  • Facilitation for optimal blood and lymph flow
  • Aiding respiration and digestion
  • Improving stride length and flexion through increased suppleness of the muscles and surrounding areas
  • Balancing of the mind and body through emotional and physical relaxation
  • Muscular toning and the prevention of muscular atrophy
  • Removal and dispersal of trapped toxins and built up lactic acid

The Treatment Service

The initial assessment may take up to 2 hours and will include taking a full, detailed history of your horse or pony, a gait analysis whilst viewing the horse being trotted up, lunged and/or performing ridden work and finally an assessment massage routine. This process will enable specific requirements to be established and a tailored treatment programme created to suit.
Follow up treatments will take up to approximately 1hr dependent upon the horse or pony’s particular needs.

Each client receives a copy of the treatment notes as well as a guidance sheet that provides additional stretching exercise techniques that can be performed in between treatment sessions.

All treatments are charged at £30 per session.

Please note that under the Veterinary Act 1948, consent or referral from the acting Veterinary Surgeon must firstly be given before any therapy can be applied.

All work is carried out within the National Association of Registered Equine Massage Therapists (NAREMT) strict Code of Conduct.
